In music, sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one sound recording and reusing it as an instrument or element of a new recording. This is typically done with a sampler, which can be a piece of hardware or a computer program on a digital computer. Sampling is also possible with tape loops or with vinyl records on a phonograph.

Often "samples" consist of one part of a song, such as a break, used in another, for instance the use of the drum introduction from Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks" in songs by the Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mike Oldfield, Rob Dougan and Erasure, and the guitar riffs from Foreigner's "Hot Blooded" in Tone-Loc's "Funky Cold Medina". So, I decided to open a blog as an extenstion to my music tutorial site (http://tutsbylion.2ya.com). Once I revamp the tutorial site, it will be completely dedicated to EnergyXT (http://www.energy-xt.com) and will no longer continue FL Studio tutorials nor will I be recording any Reason tutorials as there are plenty of great tutorials for these (and other popular) music programs all over the internet (especially youtube), but user help content, like tutorials and beatmaking videos, are extremly scarce for EnergyXT and its a great program.

Because of this change, the idea spawned to create a blog dedicated to Hip-Hop music production, beatmaking, DJing and sampling. I will be posting links to tutorials and tutorial sites such as Warbeats (http://www.warbeats.com), beatmaking videos, Documentaries (because its one thing to listen to music and completly different thing to study it), updates to TutsByLion, samples & sample blogs and possibly business "secrets."
